While the overall crop of organic pears from Argentina looks to be down this season, the arrivals will start a little earlier than last year. "Our organic import pear program looks good this year. Our partners are expected to have ample supply across all varieties," says Jenna Galise, Sales Manager at Awe Sum Organics, noting those varieties include Bartlett, Bosc, D'anjou, and Abates. "Product will be coming in with a variety of bulk options along with bag options on both the Bartlett and D'anjou."
So far this season growing conditions in Argentina have been good for organic pears. Awe Sum Organics will have its organic Bartletts and each variety following Bartletts arriving a bit earlier than in recent seasons, says Galise.
High Bartlett demand
How about demand? "We anticipate demand for organic Bartletts to be high as the imports come in," says Galise, adding that pricing compared to last year at this time is slightly higher. This follows a tight 2024 domestic pear crop which has seen stronger pricing this season.
Looking ahead, Argentinian organic Bartlett pears will begin arriving before the end of the month, followed by other varieties in the weeks after. The import program will also be well underway and likely a topic of conversation for the company when it exhibits at this year's Southern Exposure show on March 6-8 in Orlando, Florida. Awe Sum Organics can be found in booth #440.
