The Belarusian government has extended export licensing for apples, cabbage, and onions, introduced last fall. Additionally, the export of two more vegetables — carrots and table beets — will be restricted over the next three months.
According to the Decree, published on January 16, the export of these products will only be allowed with single-use licenses until April 17, 2025. Licenses will be issued by the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) in coordination with agricultural and local authorities.
The rules are strict: the primary reason for refusal will be an insufficient surplus of specific products relative to domestic demand. The minimum availability must be:
- 80% for onions, cabbage, carrots, and beets.
- 30% for apples.
If these thresholds aren't met, exports will be denied.
Officials introduced these measures to prevent shortages. Last October, former MART Minister Alexey Bogdanov warned that uncontrolled exports could leave Belarusians without enough local produce.
