The season has started 10 days late

Italian pomegranates doing better than last year

Almost three weeks since the start of the harvesting and commercialization of pomegranates, operations at Masseria Fruttirossi are in full swing. Dario De Lisi explains how sales are going in a year when inflation and uncertainty still seem to dominate the scene.

"Just like other crops, pomegranates were late due to the weather. We started the season around 10 days later than expected, however this did no affect the plans we made with our clients. Sales of the early Amek and Shany varieties are going very well: we supply supermarkets in both Italy and Europe (Germany, Switzerland and France). Shipments leave daily, with peaks in certain days of the week. Until the harvesting of the Wonderful variety will start in mid-October, we will try to monitor supplies in order to guarantee deliveries to our clients. We do not want to rush to sell the produce in little time: our mission is to guarantee the supplies of Italian produce for as long as possible."

The manager explains that foreign competition is felt especially outside of Italy, where prices are often considered more than origin/quality. Prices are in line, although remuneration is expected to be higher than in 2022, due to increase in production costs.

De Lisi is not scared by the general drop in consumption. "So far, we are pleased with the requests coming in, we are even doing better than last year. People often purchase less not so much due to the higher prices, but because the produce is of low quality. Consumers can be discouraged if they do not find pleasing produce on the shelves. In addition to being nice to look at, fruit must be mostly good to eat: if it's not, people do not buy it. Lome Super Fruit pomegranates boast excellent purchasing frequency."

Masseria Fruttirossi will attend Fruit Attraction di Madrid (October 3-5) in Hall 3 - Stand 3B05.
