José López, of Citricom, holder of the variety's rights in Spain:

"It is time for the producers who have already opted for the Valley Gold mandarin to feel protected"

"With each passing year, the Valley Gold variety is gaining more and more notoriety in the citrus market," says Citricom, holder of the Valley Gold's rights in Spain. The company will soon begin the process of protecting the variety through audits and a certification system:

"It is time for producers who have already opted for the variety to feel protected and to have all the necessary tools at their fingertips to protect their investment. This will add greater value to the variety, as well as extra guarantees for future interested parties," said the variety's manager in Spain, José López.

"The Valley Gold mandarin is an early and Alternaria-resistant variety that is usually harvested from late December to late January, although it can be left for a long time on the tree or stored in chambers without any problem," said the manager of the variety in Spain.

"Given the commercial gap it fills and its resistance to Alternaria, the variety is gaining more and more notoriety and attracting more interest at a national level, both among growers and stores. With this variety, we aim to cover the commercial gap between the early or first season varieties and the late or second season varieties," said José López.

Regarding new varieties, Citricom currently has seedless lemons and pigmented oranges in the trial phase. "Next year, we hope to have enough plant material to be able to arrange the first trial contracts and observe how these varieties perform in the field and in different areas," said José López.

To answer any questions regarding the Valley Gold project, Citricom will be present at the Fruit Attraction international trade fair in Madrid on October 4, 5 and 6 in Hall 8, stand 8D15.
