Citrus harvest grinds to a halt at Yelta
West of Mildura the rain brought the orange harvest to a halt after 36mm of rain has fallen since Monday. Michael Hammet manages about 48 hectares of citrus trees at Yelta, where Washington navels oranges had just started being picked. "It's been a slow season for the Washington season, but this has brought it to a grinding halt," he said. He said picking citrus in the rain could damage the fruit and its hard on staff.
