Alexandre Cerdan, Les Fruits de Provence

Good volumes of French cherries despite the lack of water

Les Fruits de Provence started harvesting and marketing its cherries more than a week ago. “We cannot complain, the volumes are quite good,” explains Alexandre Cerdan. The lack of water was obvious but this did not affect the production. “We were able to water just enough. We are on the banks of the Rhone river so we don't really have the same water problems as they do in other regions, and we are not subject to any particular water restrictions. But overall, we can see that the soil is dry.”

Quality is good, both visually and in terms of taste. Without bursting or particular defects, the cherry campaign looks promising. “We were lucky because we were spared from the hail that hit the surrounding villages.”

The demand is still low
The campaign is just starting so the demand is still low, but it should increase in the coming days. “At the moment, the demand is not very strong. The current weather conditions are not really favorable for consumption, especially since the cherry remains a treat.”

Les Fruits de Provence will also begin the apricot campaign this week.
