The influx of onions at the country's largest wholesale onion market at Lasalgaon Agriculture Produce Market Committee has increased from 1,400 to 2,400 tons per day over the last five days. This has led to a marginal drop in the average wholesale onion price. From Rs 800 per 100 kgs on Friday, it dipped to Rs 750 per 100 kgs on Wednesday.
Traders said the shelf-life of summer onions has been affected due to unseasonal rains that hit the crops in March and April. As farmers are trying to sell the summer onions immediately after harvest instead of storing the produce due to this, the supply has increased at the Lasalgaon APMC.
