State of Almeria's greenhouse in week 16

Producers in Almeria won't uproot their pepper plantations while there are good prices

According to the latest State of the Crops report shared by the Agricultural and Fisheries Information website of the Junta de Andalucía, during the week of April 17 to 23, greenhouse producers in the Poniente Almeriense were delaying the uprooting of the single-crop pepper plantations as long as they could to take advantage of good prices. In the rest, producers continued the uprooting of depleted plantations of the Lamuyo and California varieties to install the last late melon crops or to prepare the soil for the next campaign.

The new tomato plantations are in full harvest until the end of the production cycle at the end of May/early June.

Most of the aubergine greenhouse productions were in full harvest. The most depleted crops had been uprooted and the most recent ones had already started production.

In cucumber, the spring plantations continued their development and were harvested.

Most of the zucchini plantations were in full harvest.

The harvest of the Galia melons that were planted in December and January had begun, but the melon crops in general continued in all phases. There were greenhouses where the crops were growing, while in others they were in the flowering, fattening, and ripening stages.

Early watermelon plantations were in the fattening phase. Producers still had beehives pollinating the late plantations, and there were plantations in every state, including some that were being harvested.

Seedbed facilities were growing late plant variety, the first peppers for the region's early areas, and some batches for other regions' outdoor plantations.

Meanwhile, producers in Níjar expect the greenhouse bouquet and pear tomato harvest will end in a few weeks because the quality of the fruit decreased a little, and the cocktail tomato to end in a month. The organic tomato harvest will last longer because of their commercial commitments and because their health is a little better.

The harvest of greenhouses peppers was in its final stage.

The old aubergine plantations were still being harvested. The early April plantations were already in bloom and producers planned to continue planting until the end of May for summer productions.

The zucchini harvest continued, the quality was good in general, and yields were high, but prices had fallen a lot.

The short-cycle cucumber crops continued to grow under normal conditions.

The watermelon campaign had begun with good fruit setting and good calibers. The price is good and it's increasing.

Finally, the fruit set continued in the melon plantations.
