BLW Switzerland:

Fewer organic carrots sold, bananas remain top seller in organic segment

In February, 827 t of organic carrots were sold in the Swiss retail trade. After exceeding 900 t in each of the last three years, February sales thus fell to a level similar to February 2018 (830 t). At the same time, organic carrots had a low price of CHF 2.80/kg on average in traditional retail trade this February, which was due to increased promotional activity.

Bananas remain top seller in the organic segment
The sales volume of organic bananas in Swiss retail trade increased slightly to 2080 t (+0.5%) in February 2023 compared to the same month last year. With a share of 37% of total sales of the organic fruit segment (5628 t), organic bananas thus maintained their position as the top-selling organic fruit. At the same time, the observed price remained unchanged at CHF 2.87/kg compared to the same month last year.
