Extreme weather continued to affect the produce industry this week, with growing regions in California, Mexico, and elsewhere once again experiencing flooding and unseasonably cold temperatures. Consumers will see the downstream effects of all these factors in the form of higher prices and limited selections at the supermarket.
The movement of blueberries through Arizona, California, and Texas is expected to increase. Trading was active early and fairly active later at slightly higher prices. Flats 12 1-pint cups with lids mostly 32.00-34.00. Flats 12 6-ounce cups with lids, mostly 18.00.
Shippers expect seasonal increases ahead for crossing volumes as production increases. Many present shipments from prior bookings and/or previous commitments. Quality is reported as generally good. The movement of blueberries from Central and North Florida is expected to increase as harvesting increases. Trading is active for very light supplies. Current supplies are in too few hands to establish a market, with the first F.O.B. report expected within the period. Chile's imports of blueberries through various east coast ports of entry movement expected to decrease slightly as the season winds down. Trading active for light supplies with prices unchanged. Flats 12 1-pint cups with large lids, mostly 26.00-28.00. Quality is reported as variable.
