Avocado producers in Colombia aim to increase exports worldwide

Growers in Colombia see a chance to increase their market share in the global avocado industry. To produce more of this fruit in 2023 and beyond, growers are planting new plantations and replacing old trees.

According to a review of USDA statistics, more than 26,000 metric tons of avocados from Colombia were imported into the United States over the course of the previous five years (2018–2022). Despite the fact that this number is negligible in comparison to major suppliers like Mexico, Peru, and the Dominican Republic, it does indicate that the product has sizable marketing potential.

Despite being the second-largest producer of avocados, according to FAOSTAT statistics, Colombia is the sixth-largest exporter of the fruit.

Given the sharp rise in this fruit's consumption around the world, Colombia's avocado industry has a wonderful chance to expand its export market.

It is crucial that Colombian farmers invest in technology and farmer training to raise crop quality and productivity in order to take advantage of this chance.
