The Australian Fresh Produce Alliance (AFPA) has appointed Veronica Papacosta as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective January 2026. She will succeed Claire McClelland, who has been with the organisation since 2019 and served as CEO since 2022. McClelland will remain with the AFPA during a transition period to ensure continuity.

AFPA Chair Richard Clayton said the Board looked forward to working with Papacosta as the organisation continues its focus on workforce, trade, and supply chain policy. "Veronica brings extensive experience across the food industry, along with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Australia's fresh food producers," Clayton said.
Papacosta has more than two decades of experience in the agrifood sector, spanning retail, supply chain management, and industry representation. She has served as Chief Executive Officer of Seafood Industry Australia (SIA) since 2020, leading national initiatives on domestic and export market development and sustainable industry practices.
Her background combines operational experience with strategic policy work, which the AFPA Board said would support its ongoing advocacy for Australia's fruit and vegetable industry.
Clayton also acknowledged outgoing CEO Claire McClelland's contribution to the organisation over the past six years. "Claire has been an outstanding advocate for Australia's fresh produce growers, successfully positioning the AFPA as a trusted voice on workforce, trade, and food supply chain issues," he said.
Under McClelland's leadership, the AFPA expanded its policy influence and strengthened engagement across government and industry. She will step down following the transition period before taking time off ahead of her next professional role.
Papacosta is expected to formally take up the position in January 2026.
