Divino's approach to product enhancement (Italy)

First branded trays of persimmons in markets and supermarkets

The third season of Divino-branded Italian persimmons has just begun. The inauguration was led by Francesca Gallicchio, the administrator of the Italian company that created the brand. Gallicchio announced that the first harvest began last Friday, with supplies arriving in wholesale markets and on the shelves of Italian supermarkets on Monday, 13 October 2025.

"The campaign began a few days later than in 2024," explained the staff at the processing warehouse. "Currently, daily volumes are between 12 and 15 tons. These quantities will gradually increase, with an expected increase to 25 tons per day by next week. The peak of the season is expected in about three weeks, yet we continue to receive new batches of Rojo Brillante persimmons."

The lower temperatures of the last few days have resulted in better fruit coloring, so the quality of the harvest is good. "Although we are harvesting fruit with green parts, more than 70 percent of the persimmons we harvest have colored skin. This does not mean the fruit is bad; although it is not fully colored, it tastes good. Ripeness and color intensity tend to improve as the weeks go by. Italian wholesalers and supermarkets are the first to receive these fruits. We are packaging them in 30x50 cm containers with 16 to 22 fruits each."

The company is adopting a twofold market strategy aimed at improving the product. "We have decided to abandon Italian fruit and vegetable markets that did not distinguish between local and imported produce," says Francesca Gallicchio. "In November, during the peak of the harvest season, we will reduce our output. This is due to the risk of depreciation of the goods. This risk exists when the market supply is very high. The intensity of the reduction depends on the market's response. If the market reacts positively, sales will continue. However, it will be limited."
