Argentinian potato plant opens in Mar del Plata

Lamb Weston Holdings, Inc. has officially opened a 40,000-square-meter potato processing facility in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. The project, which has been under development for several years, is intended to supply frozen potato products to markets across Latin America.

The plant has the capacity to process around 200 million pounds of potatoes annually, producing more than 100 frozen potato product varieties. The company confirmed that its first shipments have already been sent to Brazil, with an estimated 80% of output expected to be exported to Brazil and other Latin American markets. The location of the Mar del Plata port was cited as a factor in the choice of site.

According to Lamb Weston, the facility currently employs 250 people in administrative, technical, engineering, and operational roles, with an additional 3,000 indirect jobs anticipated from the wider supply chain. The company is also working with more than 100 local potato producers to source raw materials.

The new plant incorporates modern processing equipment and is designed to use resource-efficient practices aimed at reducing waste and optimizing natural resource use.
