The 2025 cherry season on Lake Constance is looking very promising: Stable harvest volumes, significantly improved quality, and a full-bodied aroma characterize this year's harvest. In the Lake Constance region, sweet cherries are mainly grown under protected roofs. This production standard ensures uniform ripening conditions, protects the delicate fruits from the weather, and guarantees consistently high quality. Lake Constance itself acts as a natural heat reservoir: Mild nights, many hours of sunshine, and constant temperatures promote even coloring and aroma development.
Regina and Kordia remain the main varieties grown in the Lake Constance region, complemented by promising Cerasina® varieties in the early and late seasons, which have been specifically bred for taste and firmness. "Cherries from Lake Constance stand for juicy taste, short transport routes, and sustainable cultivation," explains Tim Strübing, Managing Director of Obst vom Bodensee Vertriebsgesellschaft. "The climatic conditions around the lake give our fruits their full flavor. Protected cultivation is indispensable today, especially in the competition for quality and reliability on the market."
Part of the national campaign for the "Superhero Cherry"
With the newly introduced "German Superhero Cherry Day" on July 16, 2025, the BVEO campaign "Germany, My Garden" is putting the spotlight on domestic sweet cherries nationwide for the first time. Obst vom Bodensee is participating in this campaign together with Elbe Obst, VEOS, and other cooperative marketers. In calendar week 28/29, German cherries will be prominently placed at the point of sale, accompanied by targeted marketing and consumer campaigns, including a nationwide competition to generate additional attention.

Strengthening appreciation for local summer fruit
Despite ideal growing conditions, economic pressure on producers remains high. Early imports and uneven production standards are making the market difficult. "This makes it all the more important to highlight regional quality through reliable provenance, sustainable cultivation, and conscious consumer communication," says Tim Strübing. Obst vom Bodensee is committed to partnership, transparency, and continuous product development to ensure that summer fruit from the region continues to be a staple on our plates in the future.
