Food technology center launches facility to support freezing, processing, and storage innovations in Tashkent

Air Products, a global industrial gas company, opened the Center for food freezing, processing, and storage technologies in Tashkent. Located at the Agricultural University, the center aims to support the development of advanced food preservation methods in Uzbekistan.

Equipped with modern systems for cryogenic freezing and Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), the facility serves as a demonstration and training site. It allows food producers to observe real-time applications of the technologies, receive guidance from technical experts, and explore methods to extend shelf life, preserve quality, and reduce food losses.

The center is supported by a new CO₂ production plant in Navoi, capable of producing 120 metric tons of food-grade liquid carbon dioxide daily, with a purity of 99.99%. This CO₂ is essential for various food industry applications, including shock freezing, MAP, dry ice production, and CO₂ enrichment in greenhouses.

The launch aligns with Uzbekistan's national strategy to reduce agricultural losses and increase year-round exports. As more local producers adopt freezing and MAP technologies, they are expected to gain better access to both domestic and international markets.
