Moroccan mango imports up 10%

Morocco is witnessing evolving dynamics in mango imports, with a substantial increase outlined by EastFruit. In 2024, imports rose to 15,600 tons, a 10% increase over the previous year and double the figures for 2019 and 2020. Early 2025 saw January and February figures reach 2,500 tons, a threefold increase from the same period in 2024, marking it a high for the season.

Since 2020, mango imports have displayed a 15% average annual growth. The peak import season remains March to May, with Mali and Senegal as principal suppliers, despite Mali's diminishing share. Conversely, Spain's exports have decreased, while Brazil and Egypt have increased their foothold, with Brazil among the top three exporters by late 2024. Peru also set import records in early 2025.

This import surge is part of a broader demand for tropical fruits. Moroccan markets are responding to consumer preferences for mangoes, leading to increased product diversification. Investments in storage and logistics have supported the availability of quality imports throughout the nation. Enhanced trade links with African and Latin American nations are crucial to maintaining these supply chains.

According to EastFruit analysts, the trend is expected to progress into 2025, driven by persistent domestic demand and stable trade networks. However, potential volatility in fruit prices or supply disruptions may impact future trajectories. In tandem, Morocco reported record banana imports in 2024, indicating a broader shift in fruit import patterns.
