Nakanai District prepares youth for fruit-picking jobs abroad

The Nakanai District in West New Britain province is advancing a fruit-picking initiative in Australia and New Zealand. Key figures such as youth representative Mr. Percy Bashia, District Administrator and CEO Jeffery Osa, and District Development Authority board members are in Port Moresby for funding negotiations and program planning with coordinator John Ravu.

Three Nakanai youths are prepared for participation in Australia. The selected individuals include a female from Buluma and two males from Buvussi and Soi. Additionally, 20 youths, primarily from Central Nakanai, are ready for testing before potential deployment. Discussions in Port Moresby may include more youths from East Nakanai, Hoskins, and Mosa.

This program is seen as an opportunity for Nakanai youth to gain international experience and contribute economically through remittances. A district representative states the initiative aligns with addressing law and order issues by providing a "second chance" for youth development. Participation is expected to equip them with skills and experience, positioning them as ambassadors for the Nakanai District.

Updates on the program's development will be provided. The district leadership emphasizes the collaborative effort to empower youth and build a future for the Nakanai District.
