Swiss organic fruit is on trend

"Organic blueberry production is particularly successful"

Organic fruit is becoming increasingly popular and has long since established itself on the shelves of major retailers, having started out as a niche product. "We now generate a significant proportion of our annual sales with organic products – and this share is growing steadily. Apples are by far our most important product in the organic sector, both in terms of sales and volume," explains Andreas Brüllhardt, organic manager at Tobi Seeobst AG. "Organic blueberry production is particularly successful. Raspberries and blackberries, on the other hand, still pose major challenges for organic production."

Tobi has been offering organic consulting services to producers for several years, covering both cultivation and market potential. Brüllhardt: "Communication is a crucial factor – if, for example, there is greater demand for organic pears, we inform the producers of the market potential so that they can respond accordingly. When there was a sudden demand for Demeter products on the market, we also took this approach together with our producers."
