In Buang, Bulolo, Papua New Guinea, continuous rainfall has disrupted the logistics for fresh produce farmers over the past two weeks. The lack of sunshine has resulted in a mudslide along the Buang access road from Gabensis, obstructing vehicle access with debris and mud.
While partial clearance has been achieved, public vehicles have been rerouted through Patep in Mumeng for safety. This detour has caused delays for farmers attempting to reach Lae to sell their produce. Farmers from Aiyeyok in Buang's ward 5 report waiting for at least two weeks.
Farmer Michael Bai stated, "We need to go to Lae to sell, but we cannot because there is no transport because the road access is blocked." He highlighted that traveling via Patep in Mumeng is a longer and more costly route compared to the direct access through Gabensis in the Huon Gulf district.
Local transport operator Ke Coffee Rural Cooperative Society has assumed responsibility for clearing the road. Utilizing a truck, chainsaw, and local volunteers, they have restored access, though the road remains muddy.
