Egypt has reported a 50% increase in palm date exports to Vietnam during the first eight months of the current season, totaling 365 tons, according to EastFruit. This growth marks the third consecutive season of increased exports, with revenue reaching $194,000. Vietnam is identified as a high-potential market, though Morocco and Indonesia remain primary destinations for Egyptian palm dates.
In Vietnam, rising consumer demand has driven consistent import growth. Egypt's market success is attributed to investments in cultivating renowned palm date varieties and offering competitively priced products that meet Vietnam's demand for affordable options. Typically, exports peak between November and December, but this season saw an expanded window from October through January.
Egypt holds a 40% market share in Vietnam after eight months but faces competition from Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya, which have increased their presence. Beyond palm dates, Egypt exports frozen strawberries, oranges, and garlic to Vietnam, though these categories experience limited growth due to competition and logistical challenges.
Palm dates remain Egypt's most dynamic export category, highlighting Vietnam's importance as a market for Egyptian producers. Additionally, Egypt expanded palm date exports to Turkey last season, reinforcing its global market position.
