The Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation (KSMDMC) has expanded its Karsiri portal to facilitate the direct sale of 12 mango varieties to consumers in Bengaluru. This initiative is designed to streamline the supply chain by directly linking mango farmers with consumers, bypassing traditional middlemen. This approach ensures that farmers receive equitable compensation for their produce while providing consumers with access to fresh mangoes delivered to their doorsteps.
Initially launched in 2018, the Karsiri portal offers a user-friendly interface that allows consumers to select from a diverse range of mango varieties. This platform effectively supports local farmers by broadening their market reach beyond local confines, while simultaneously ensuring quality and timely delivery to consumers. The portal promises efficient delivery, with options for same-day or next-day service to maintain the freshness of the fruit.
The portal features a selection of mango varieties, including Alphonso, Kesar, Himam Pasand, Badami, Mallika, Neelam, Malgova, Kalapad, Sindhura, Totapuri, Dusheri, and Baneshan. These mangoes are cultivated across several districts in Karnataka, such as Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Dharwad, and Ramanagara.
To purchase mangoes through the Karsiri portal, consumers must first visit the website and browse the available mango varieties. After selecting their preferred types, they can place an order and complete the payment process securely online. Once an order is placed, farmers receive a notification to prepare and dispatch the mangoes to the General Post Office in Bengaluru, from where they are delivered to the consumer's address.
This initiative by KSMDMC underscores the potential of digital platforms in enhancing market access for farmers and providing consumers with high-quality produce. By leveraging the Karsiri portal, both farmers and consumers benefit from a more efficient and transparent supply chain.
