An image displaying empty shelves in the fresh food section of an Aldi supermarket in Parramatta, Sydney, has prompted discussions among shoppers. The photo, shared on the Facebook page Aldi Fans Australia, showed the store devoid of fresh produce. A caption accompanying the image read, "Does anyone know what happened at Aldi Parramatta today? The fruit and veg shelves were all empty. It was really unusual."
Social media users quickly engaged with the post. Some reported similar instances at their local Aldi stores, while others speculated on reasons such as delivery issues and consecutive public holidays. One user commented, "I was there yesterday morning and it had decent stock. The banana section at the front was completely full. Fridges had stock. Veggies were there, fruit looked a bit picked over. I'm kinda shocked seeing this. lol."
Another noted, "We had the same in Coffs Harbour this afternoon, not quite as bad but still very low stock." Public holidays were mentioned as a possible factor, with one person stating, "Everyone panicked because they closed the shops for the WHOLE day on Anzac Day. No one coped. My Aldi was the same on Thursday."
Delivery logistics were frequently cited, with a user explaining, "Apparently, if their delivery doesn't get into its timeslot on time, it's turned away. I was told this when I asked about this at my local store by the manager." Another added, "Probably a delivery issue from their warehouse."
One individual remarked, "I went shopping at Aldi this morning and it looked like the day after Christmas shopping," while another observed, "There was hardly any meat, fruit, and veggies in Toronto Lake Macquarie last night either, something to do with their delivery, I'm assuming."
The underlying issue at the Parramatta location was identified as a mechanical problem. According to news.com.au, a broken lift at the store affected the unloading of deliveries, which has since been addressed. The store is now in the process of restocking.
