Qatar sold over 37,000 tons of local vegetables in 2024

In Doha, Qatar, the Ministry of Municipality's marketing programs led to the sale of over 37,000 tons of local vegetables in 2024. This initiative involved 150 local farms, selling 13,081 tons during the 2023-24 season, a marked increase from 889 tons in 2012-13.

The Ministry's 2024 annual report highlights these achievements within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030. Mahaseel for Marketing and Agriculture Services Company acquired 24,000 tons of vegetables, valued at QR68m, from 199 farms in 2024. The company supports local agricultural production through pre-contracting and daily contracting programs, under the Ministry's supervision.

The Ministry's Agricultural Affairs Department provides marketing platforms, including five vegetable markets and Mahaseel, to enhance local farm visibility. In addition, 880 tons of dates were supplied in 2024, up from 513 tons in 2006, under the 'Dates Supply Programme'. This program is part of the Ministry's efforts to bolster food security and agricultural development.

Agricultural support includes greenhouses, modern irrigation systems, hydroponics, and production inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Three agricultural service centers—North Center in Zubarah, Central Center in Umm Salal, and South Center in Al Shahaniya—offer machinery and equipment for land preparation.

The Ministry encourages modern irrigation to optimize water use and expand cultivation. In 2023, 276 farms adopted modern irrigation systems, with 124 more following in 2024.
