AEBE signs deals to improve banana export compliance

The Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE) has entered into two agreements with Coface and Verificante, aiming to improve transparency and compliance standards within the country's banana export industry.

Coface is an international company that offers credit insurance and risk analysis services in over 100 countries. Verificante is a technology platform that uses artificial intelligence to automate identity verification and data analysis, accessing more than 21 information sources to streamline compliance checks.

Under the terms of the agreements, AEBE will introduce a structured and ongoing compliance evaluation system for both current members and prospective affiliates. The evaluation by Coface will focus on five key areas: financial health, operational efficiency, adherence to regulatory requirements, quality assurance, and commercial performance.

Jorge Encalada, president of AEBE, noted that the agreements are part of broader efforts to strengthen the association's institutional framework. Executive Director José Antonio Hidalgo added that the initiative is intended to support the sector's credibility in international markets by applying standardized evaluation processes.

Representatives from Coface and Verificante also commented on the collaboration. Coface's general manager for Ecuador, Adrián Ordóñez, stated that the company would apply internationally recognized standards to support the evaluation process. Felipe Ribadeneira of Verificante emphasized the efficiency of automated background checks powered by AI, designed to support regulatory compliance and data validation.

The new compliance framework is part of AEBE's broader efforts to improve governance practices and align the banana export sector with global trade standards.
