Farmers urged to sell stocks

No potato price hike expected in Kyrgyzstan

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan reports that potato prices are expected to remain stable soon. As of mid-April, the wholesale price exceeds 40 soms per kilogram (approximately €0.42), which the ministry says is a favorable rate for farmers to sell their remaining stocks.

Authorities are encouraging farmers to take advantage of the current market and secure a good profit before the arrival of the new harvest.

As of April 14, Kyrgyzstan imported 8,300 tons of potatoes and exported 16,400 tons. All imported potatoes are subject to mandatory lab tests for pesticides and nitrates before entering the domestic market.

Retail prices currently range from 35 to 65 soms per kilogram (€0.37–€0.68). The ministry highlights that the price situation is stable, and no significant increases are expected. On the contrary, the start of the new harvest in May could drive prices down.
