Potato market report 12th February

Stable retail demand as growers face seed shortages for 2025 plantings

Home consumption and retail demand remain stable. Preparations are underway for 2025 plantings. Growers who have not yet sourced seed, particularly for processing varieties, will find it extremely difficult to do so. It is likely that similar to 2024 growers will have to use home-saved seed to bridge the gap if new seed supplies are not available.

Across Europe, the main processors are concentrating on moving contracts, and activity in the free-buy market is limited. Sellers remain confident that values will continue to improve. Export demand is currently reduced to most destinations while buyers wait for prices to settle but there is still good demand in France from buyers in Spain.
