India, despite being a leading producer of agricultural and perishable goods, holds only a 2% share in the global market. Exporters encounter several obstacles, including high spoilage rates due to mishandling and inadequate temperature control, resulting in up to 20% losses. The export process is further complicated by extensive documentation and poor supply chain visibility, which introduces inefficiencies and elevates costs. Consequently, much of India's premium produce does not reach international markets, despite being deemed export quality.
In response to these challenges, Citrus Freight has emerged as India's inaugural reefer container shipping platform, providing comprehensive solutions for perishable exports. The platform facilitates AI-driven price discovery, allowing exporters to ascertain landed costs and secure shipping swiftly, a process that traditionally could extend up to 72 hours. Citrus Freight's commitment to maintaining spoilage rates below 5% enhances profitability by 20% for exporters. Additionally, the platform's use of AI for smart vessel scheduling empowers exporters with options for vessels that offer shorter transit times and dependable performance.
Currently, Citrus Freight's team of 25 supports 25,000 SME agri-exporters, streamlining logistics to bolster the presence of Indian fresh produce in international markets. The initiative has garnered interest from venture capitals such as Caret Capital and Intercont Freight Liners, facilitating further growth. Founders Biplob and Ricky are driven by a vision to connect Indian farmers and exporters with global markets.
