No new sightings of oriental fruit fly in south Auckland after initial detection

No new occurrences of the oriental fruit fly have been identified following the initial discovery in South Auckland earlier this month. This pest poses a threat to the horticulture sector, with its larvae able to infest over 300 varieties of fruits and vegetables.

A representative from Biosecurity New Zealand has stated that their team is persistently monitoring traps, managing waste collection from designated bins for secure disposal, and conducting fruit inspections within a mobile laboratory setup. Furthermore, the officers have engaged with the local community through visits to produce markets to disseminate vital information.
