Potato prices surge by 88% in Russia

In Russia, experts predict that this year's potato harvest could be 7–15% smaller than last year's, with 8.6 million tons of potatoes.

According to the Agrobusiness analytical centre, farmers have reduced their potato planting by 10.8% over the past year.

The reduced harvest and decreased potato imports have already led to an 88% increase in potato prices since the beginning of the year. This is expected to continue, with current producer prices 42.2% higher than a year ago.

Farmers from the Saratov region have noted that even though prices have increased, they aren't seeing much benefit because higher costs for imported machinery and seeds are erasing their extra income.
