Thomas Suter faced a number of challenges when he took over the mushroom farm in Frick in 2014. Luckily, his father Daniel Suter was at his side, so he was able to benefit from his father's many years of experience and expertise. Today, Fricktaler Bio-Pilze employs 26 people in 20 full-time positions and produces around six tons of organic mushrooms per week.
In 2009, 70 percent white and 30 percent brown mushrooms were sold; today, brown mushrooms are the more popular variety among the Swiss population, accounting for 60 percent.
At the beginning of 2021, the company Fricktaler Bio-Pilze Ltd was founded and Bio Suisse certified. As a result, the first organic mushrooms grew in Frick. "The demand for organic mushrooms will continue to grow, not least because of today's 'green' mindset. Regional production and Swiss origin play an important role in this. Food safety and quality are also decisive factors that are becoming increasingly important," Thomas Suter says.
