Atypique, a wholesaler specialized in downgraded fruit and vegetables, has raised 2.1 million euros in funding. Founded in March 2021 by Simon Charmette and Thibault Kibler in order to structure the BtoB downgraded fruit and vegetable sector, Atypique has “already succeeded in saving 2,000 tons of fruit and vegetables since its launch, including 1,400 tons since January 2023, by supporting some 100 producers.”

2023-2024: opening of 6 new hubs From the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in 2021 to Rungis in 2023, Atypique continues to progress. Thanks to this fund raising, the wholesaler will be able to “extend its impact in France” and even expand beyond the French borders. “We will be opening 6 new hubs: in Lille and Marseille by the end of 2023, followed by Nantes, Strasbourg, Bordeaux and Toulouse in 2024. European deployment is then planned from 2025,” explains Simon Charmette.
Fruit, vegetables…and more
Food waste goes beyond the fruit and vegetable sector. “We are therefore planning to extend our commitment to other grocery items, including meat and dairy products,” at the request of their clients and in line with the company’s anti-waste approach.
The funds were raised from 3 investors: Makesense Seed I, Investir&+ and Foodara.
BtoB wholesaler
“We want to fight food waste at the source and offer producers an income supplement in a segment that is usually poorly remunerated or not at all. Our offer is simple and clear: fresh fruit and vegetables that are 100% French, in season and 90% certified (organic or HEV), at prices ranging from 20% to 50% lower, thanks to a simple, high-performance operation that is in tune with the challenges of today and tomorrow. Atypique has taken a BtoB wholesale business model and given it an anti-waste twist, in order to address this segment and its challenges.”
Today, Atypique has more than 600 clients in various segments: contract catering (Newrest, Sodexo, API restauration, Compass, Dupont restauration...), commercial catering (Accor and the Louvre hotel Group), as well as grocery stores, associations and food banks.
