Mandarin prices at origin in the Valencian Community start with increases of up to 47%

According to forecasts, the Valencian Community will produce about 1,299,475 tons of oranges, 1,134,895 tons of mandarins, 344,690 tons of lemons, and 17,630 tons of grapefruits. Mandarin production is expected to be 94,902 tons lower than in the previous campaign and 331,870 tons lower than the average of the previous five (-22.6%).

The decrease occurs in all subgroups and almost all provinces. It is more pronounced in clementines, which are expected to experience a 50,000 tons decrease over the previous season, but it will also occur in satsumas and hybrids, according to the estimates of the Ministry of Agriculture.

In this context, varieties such as Oronules, with an average price of 0.65 euro per kilogram at origin, recorded price increases of up to 47% over the same week of last year when it was paid at an average price of 0.45 euro at origin, according to data provided by the Citrus Market of Valencia.

The price of the Marisol stands at 0.37 euro/kg, i.e. 8% higher than the 0.34 euro/kg they were sold at a year earlier. Meanwhile, the prices of the Clemenrubí, as well as the Orogrós, are similar to that of the previous year, standing at 0.61 euro per kilo.

Meanwhile, the prices at origin of the Okitsu and Owari satsuma varieties stand, on average, at 0.32 and 0.30 euro per kilogram, a much better price than last year, when they stood at an average of 0.28 and 0.24 euro/kg, respectively. In the case of the earliest orange varieties, the Navelina, operations have not yet begun in the fields.
