The Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile (Asoex) It is estimated that 100 million boxes of cherries will be shipped around the world in the next cycle, mostly to Asia, surpassing the previous record 83 million boxes.
Iván Marambio, President of Asoex, stated: “The estimate of cherry exports for this new season is 90 to 100 million boxes. Last year we shipped around 83 million boxes, so it would be a record year. However, we are still in the process of making a more comprehensive estimate, especially after the rains. Nevertheless, we will have a significant volume. “We will improve the quality and ultimately the consumer in China, our main market, will have an even better product than the one they already had.”
For her part, Claudia Soler, managing director of the Cherry Committee emphasized that the Cherry Committee has carried out a study on the growth expectations in terms of volume and export in the future, “and if the conditions are appropriate, we should see significant growth during the production process in the next four years.” Plantations that “they are already there and are in training.”
