With temperatures reaching 21 degrees, between 400 and 500 visitors attended Enza Zaden's 19th Gemüsebau Feldtag (Vegetable Growing Field Day) in Dannstadt-Schauernheim, Germany, on September 14. The event was held as part of the company's Discovery Field Days, which began in Allonnes, France, at the beginning of September and will be rounded off with a multi-day event in the Dutch town of Twisk at the end of September. Enza Zaden celebrated its 85th anniversary this year.
In keeping with this year's theme, "Resistance Makes The Difference," 250 crops were presented on 38 beds, including new varieties of iceberg lettuce, lamb's lettuce, arugula, squash, kohlrabi, etc., each with large resistance packages to combat diseases such as Bremia or ToBRFV. The exhibitors, (trade) visitors, and the press were in a lively exchange.
Furthermore, the harvesting machine from Hortech was also shown in action, while at the same time, several exhibitors were able to present their products, including Vitalis, which is the organic subsidiary of Enza Zaden. The press was also given a glimpse of seed multiplication as well as the protected cultivation area.
In the coming week, FreshPlaza will feature reports on each of Enza Zaden's divisions.
