The flood hit Daniele Neri's company hard. His nursery in San Michele di Ravenna remained under water for a few days and 150 thousand scions dried in little time.
"It's been terrible, as we had many bookings for our patented peach and nectarine varieties. But the flood in mid-May caused what we did not think possible: the whole area was flooded and almost all plants died," reports Neri.
The plants in the nursery were of the varieties held by Neri of the Romagna series. Fruits boast large grades and an excellent organoleptic level.
"Unfortunately, we will not be able to please all clients this year, although we are studying a plan B to have at least a minimum number of plants. It was a terrible blow, but we will roll up our sleeves and get back on our feet." Neri's sons Daniele, Federico and Francesco also work for the company.
"I don't know if such a flood could have been avoided, but the damage could have been limited had river beds been maintained by cutting the vegetation and checking the banks for wild animal tunnels."
During the days of the flood, Daniele helped families from Faenza and the surrounding area whose houses were flooded. "Some people lost everything. I tried to give a hand with my agricultural equipment to shift the mud. Resources are needed as soon as possible help families and companies, otherwise the sector cannot get back on its feet."
