Proexport will organize the Lettuce Attraction 2023 to be held during the fair in Madrid

“Lettuce will be Fruit Attraction 2023's star product”

The director of the event, Maria Jose Sanchez, announced yesterday in Madrid that Proexport would organize the Lettuce Attraction 2023. There are many reasons to do this, she said, but she highlighted two: "First, lettuce is one of the most consumed vegetables worldwide. Thanks to its versatility, soft flavor, and freshness, it's present in millions of dishes around the planet. The second reason is that Spain is the world's leading lettuce-exporting country, followed by the United States and Mexico. Thus, the Spanish producers who are behind this success deserve that we shine a light on their hard work."

The fair prepares special marketing and advertising for this product, which will be disseminated to both the professional and general public during the months prior to the event and very prominently during the development of the fair in Madrid from October 3 to 5.

Proexport will organize Lettuce Attraction
IFEMA and FEPEX have relied on the Association of Producers-Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables of the Region of Murcia (Proexport) to co-organize the Lettuce Attraction 2023, a multi-event that will offer the best of the world of lettuce and salads to visitors and media present there: audiovisual materials, professional conferences, debates, B2B business meetings, refreshing cooking shows, exhibitors, an orchard of lettuce varieties, and some surprises yet to be revealed.

Proexport is the fruit and vegetable association that brings together the majority of the Spanish lettuce production sector, and it already successfully organized the first edition of Lettuce Attraction in 2017.

"We're very happy to organize Lettuce Attraction 2023 to value Spain as Europe's most reliable, sustainable, and modern lettuce producer. Producers, distributors, and processors from different countries will analyze the productive, economic, distribution, and gastronomic trends and challenges facing the sector," stated Fernando Gomez, director of Proexport.

Spanish lettuce production and export
In 2022 Spain produced almost one million tons of lettuce (966,543 tons) on a total of 33,411 hectares. Production was led by the Region of Murcia with 15,474 hectares (46% of the total) and Andalusia with 10,265 (31%).

In 2022, Spain exported 714,503 tons of lettuce, worth 826 million euros. The Region of Murcia also leads this ranking after exporting 465,985 tons worth 524 million euros. It was followed by Andalusia, with exports worth 158 million euros, and the Valencian Community, with 92.5 million euros.
