Status of Almeria's greenhouse crops at the end of April

According to the latest State of the Crops report published by the Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service of the Junta de AndalucĂa, corresponding to the week of April 24 to 30, producers in the West of Almeria are delaying the uprooting of the single crop pepper crops for as long as they can to take advantage of good prices.

The new tomato plantations are in full harvest until the end of the production cycle at the end of May/early June.

Most of the aubergine greenhouse productions were in full harvest. The most depleted crops had been uprooted and the most recent ones had already started production.

The cucumber spring harvest is in full production and producers will keep this crop if prices improve, otherwise, many farmers will uproot their plantations.

Most of thecourgette plantations were in full harvest.

The harvest of the Galia melons that were planted in December and January had begun, but the melon crops in general continued in all phases. There were greenhouses where the crops were growing, while in others they were in the flowering, fattening, and ripening stages.

There were watermelon crops in all stages, including some that were being harvested.

Seedbed facilities were growing late plant variety, the first peppers for the region's early areas, and some batches for other regions' outdoor plantations.

In the greenhouses of Nijar, producers continued harvesting tomatoes and the main cooperatives expect to end the campaign in two weeks; the fruits are being harvested with a bit less quality due to loss of coloration and low calibers, but prices per kilo are still very good, so producers continue prolonging the crops.

Producers are also harvesting aubergines but the quality of many aubergines has fallen because the setting was affected by the heat and the high humidity. As a result, the product has skin issues and other deformations.

Courgettes are in full harvest, and some fruits have dehydration symptoms at the end.

The short-cycle cucumber crops continued to grow under normal conditions.

Finally, the watermelon harvest continues with very good production, quality, and good prices. Melon plantations are in full harvest.
