In Pakistan, prices of fruits and vegetables have skyrocketed, getting out of reach of the common citizens. The prices of all vegetables including potatoes, onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, green chillies, mint, lemon and coriander has been increased from Rs 50 to Rs 300 per kg violating price lists issued by the district government price control committee.
On the other hand, the price of fruits including apples, guava, strawberries, bananas, oranges and watermelon has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 600, respectively. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released the data according to which the inflation was recorded by 1.80 per cent in the first week of Ramadan, while the weekly inflation rate reached 48.35 per cent.
Pakistantoday.com.pk reports that, from 20 to 24 March, as many as 26 commodities’ prices have been increased, while the prices of 12 commodities decreased and the prices of 13 goods remained stable.
Bananas
Amidst the ongoing political and economical unrest in Pakistan, the prices of fruits including bananas and grapes during Ramadan. During this period, Muslims across the world practice self-restraint as they observe a 30-day fasting period from dawn to dusk.
Pakistani journalist Naila Inayat took to Twitter to share a post that read that Prices of Bananas shoots to Rs.500/Dozen in Pakistan.
Samaa TV reported, based on one week report, the short-term inflation has increased by 1.80 percent as tomatoes, potatoes, and wheat flour became costlier.
