Maine: Penobscot McCrum potato processing facility will not be rebuilt

The company that owns the potato processing facility in Penobscot Maine that was destroyed by a fire a year ago will not rebuilt that plant. Daniel McCrum, a member of the family that owns the plant, made this announcement on Friday.

When the factory burnt down in March of last year, 138 workers lost their jobs. For a while there was some hope that the facility might be rebuilt and the jobs might return, but that was not to be. The McCrum family says their focus is on expanding and investing in their potato processing facility in Washburn, Maine. They acknowledge that not investing in the facility in Belfast will have an impact, but that this is the best way forward.
