Good campaign for Sicilian organic zucchini

"During this part of the season, our organic crops include a wide variety of products such as artichokes, broad beans, peas, kohlrabi, Chinese cabbage, zucchini and celery. There have been no particular problems and products fully express their organoleptic qualities," explains Vito Cascone, sales manager at OP Agrologica in Chiaramonte (RG), Sicily.

"Artichokes went through a period of crisis in January, then unexpectedly recovered in February and March, with production prices of €0.50/head. The main destinations are abroad, especially France. The same happened with celery, the consumption of which dropped in January and then picked up again in February and March with production prices of €0.60/each."

"The production of kohlrabi and Chinese cabbage is currently in full swing. Quality is excellent and prices are in line with the season. The main destinations are northern European countries. Unfortunately, the consumption of these vegetables is still slow in Italy, as more traditional products are the still preferred option."

"Zucchini are doing well, with a lively demand for organic dark zucchini right from the start of 2023 and production prices of €1. The sales campaign of all these products will end towards late April, when we will start preparing the stone fruit and grape campaign, the harvesting of which will start between late May and early June. Once again, the organic produce proves very popular especially abroad and with less fluctuating prices unlike traditional products."
