According to Fernando Cilloniz, the president of the consultancy Inform@ccion, up until January of this year, Peru had exported 269,920,357 kilos of blueberries for 1,220,568,261 dollars in this campaign. By the end of March, he predicted, fresh blueberry shipments could amount to nearly 280,000 tons and more than 1.4 billion dollars, i.e. 28% more volume and 7.8% more value than in the same period of the previous campaign.
Up until January, the main destinations for the Peruvian fresh blueberry were North America, with 144,222,267 kilos, Europe, with 84,791,652 kilos, Asia, with 39,854,922 kilos, and Latin America, with 1,051,512 kilos, Cilloniz stated.
The main exporting companies until January of this campaign were Camposol with 35,580,426 kilos, Hortifrut Peru with 30,713,668 kilos, Agrovision Peru with 23,356,653 kilos, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta with 19,867,030 kilos, Agricola Cerro Prieto with 15,445,940 kilos, and others with 126,648,280 kilos.
By calendar year
In terms of the calendar year, Fernando Cilloniz said that in 2022 Peru had exported a total of 276,477,834 kilos for 1,389,376,133 dollars, i.e. 33.8% more volume and 15.2% more value than in 2021.
“Peru is the world's leading exporter of blueberries and it will continue to be so in the next two years (2023 and 2024) because our production will continue to grow during those years, regardless of whether there are new plantings since there are very new and tender plantations that will yield products. We don't know what will happen after that period. It will depend on the sowing that takes place this year and next one,” he stated.
