The Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo, together with representatives of the citrus chain and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, is looking into the guidelines for the intensification of the phytosanitary control work for the export of lemons to Europe.
“It is essential to control and inspect the entire link of the production chain, from the field to the consumer”, said Antonio Junqueira, who also highlighted the need to maintain the work already carried out by the Agricultural Defense of the State: “Preventive action is important to maintain control over the production and shipment of the fruit abroad.”
The State of São Paulo is responsible for 85% of national lemon shipments to the European bloc. The municipalities of Itajobi and Catanduva, for example, stand out in the production and export of the fruit.
