NN-Pack presents two new packaging machines

NN-Pack from Mannheim will present its woven plastic nets with a width of 40 cm at Fruit Logistica, among other things. As Managing Director Yanik Simon Pfeifer told us, they will also be presenting two new packaging machines: "One of the two machines will be available  at the end of the year and was developed and built by ourselves. It will be used primarily for banded citrus, while the other will serve carry-fresh packaging for potatoes and onions."

The first machine, which previously allowed horizontal welding of the nets, has now been supplemented with vertical welding. "We started the development three years ago. For our machines, we make sure that the components we use are from high-quality brands, particularly when it comes to the electronics," Pfeifer says. "We have also produced a PE film for Carry Fresh packaging, which we invested a lot of time in developing. It is in great demand, especially in terms of recycling. We can bring a competitive product to the market with it."

Clip nets have become NN-Pack's mainstay in recent years, he added. "With the 40-cm woven net, we can pack goods from 1.5 kg in the clip range to 5 kg in the carry-fresh range. Production of the nets takes place in a plant in Turkey run by one of our shareholders."

Cellulose nets are also offered, he said, but only on a limited scale. "They are particularly suitable for organic goods, such as Demeter-certified products, which probably even have to use these nets as of this year," Pfeifer says. "Probably, this product will not really catch on with our customers until late 2023/early 2024."

He has not experienced any problems in procuring the materials and nets. "Given the size of our company, procuring the materials was not a problem. What did cause problems, was the disproportionate increase in PE prices. We do feel the cost. However, I think this is quite normal, as the whole industry and supply chains are affected."
