Fontenay farm:

France: more transparency for consumers by integrating blockchain on condiments

Today, 90% of consumers are looking for more transparency on the origin of the food products they consume. To meet these expectations, retailers are now sourcing more and more local and agroecological products. In order to address the lack of transparency felt by consumers, the Fontenay farm integrated blockchain technology on the condiments in its Vajou range in January 2023 and has chosen Connecting Food as its partner. This project, which began in March 2022, is intended to be gradually extended to other products of the company.

Consumers scan the QR Code
“With any smartphone, consumers can scan the QR Code on the condiments’ label, which opens a free web application without any download or account to create. They can then enter the batch number on the label to discover the product's journey from its production in the fields to its packaging. The application provides information such as sowing and harvest dates, place of packaging of the product, as well as explanations on the functioning of the company and its labels.”

“The data provided by the application cannot be tampered with thanks to blockchain technology. Each batch number is audited digitally to verify its conformity with the product’s specifications. This technology offers complementary space for information on the product and for the company to show its environmental commitments.”

Vajou, a 100% traceable premium regional range
Prepared and packaged by hand, the Vajou range consists of 7 types of condiments: yellow onions, red onions, pink onions, saucier onions, shallots, echalions and white garlic. The condiments packaged under this brand come from farms that are certified High Environmental Value (HEV), a label that aims to encourage biodiversity and preserve soil life by implementing agroecological practices.

Officially launched on LinkedIn on January 19th, this project is being promoted to consumers through in-store events in the Grand Est and Ile-de-France regions. The new feature will also be presented at Fruit Logistica in Berlin on February 8-19th, together with Orion, the tear-free onion already revealed in Madrid.
