Peru's new avocado campaign, which started in December 2022 and will continue until October 2023, has started with positive data. According to information from the consultancy firm Fresh Fruit, the country shipped 2,716 tons up to week 2, i.e. 3% more than in the same period last season.
"Currently, the main destinations for the Peruvian avocado are China with a 29% share, the Netherlands with a 23% share, and the United States with a 19% share. In the same period last year, Russia was the main destination with a 36% share. However, due to the conflict with Ukraine, this country imported fewer Peruvian avocados in this initial phase," the consultancy stated.
“So far in the current campaign, the avocado has only been shipped out by the sea. The port of Callao is the main port of departure, with a 64% share, followed by Paita, with a 36% share.”
Profrutos Peru E.I.R.L. is the company that has exported the most avocados through Callao up to and including week 2 (24% of exports through that port). Transtotal Agencia Marítima S.A. leads exports through the port of Paita, with a 28% share.
