Agreement to increase fruit growing in Brazil’s São Francisco Valley

The Secretariat for Agrarian Development (SDA) of Pernambuco signed a cooperation agreement, with the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries and Aquaculture of Bahia (Seagri), to implement actions that can ensure the sustainability of fruit growing in Pernambuco and Bahia.

The agreement aims at implementing pest monitoring and phytosanitary control actions , through extension activities and research in the field of agriculture, as well as the implementation of a Phytosanitary Protection Area that will cover several municipalities in the São Francisco valley, region which accounts for more than 90% of all mangoes and grapes exported by Brazil to the international market.
