Organic banana producers from Peru plan to double exports to Chile

Engineer Cristhian Ramirez, the president of the 'Líderes del Norte' Association of Small Banana Producers of Pampas de Hospital, Tumbes, stated that they planned to export more than five containers of organic bananas to Chile this year, after the good reception that the two containers they previously sent had.

The association brings together 98 partners that, together, have some 100 hectares of organic bananas and supply the Tottus supermarket chain in Lima, with 40 tons of organic bananas per week.

“This year the prices of our fruit improved, going from 18 soles per box of 14 kilos in 2021 to 21 soles now,” stated Engineer Ramirez.

It should be noted that the regulation of the Regional Strategic Program of Organic Bananas of Tumbes (created on February 16, 2017) was approved on December 5 through Regional Decree No. 000003-2022-GOB.REG-Tumbes-GR in order to boost the competitiveness of this crop, which is a flagship product of this region.
