Arab consumers increasingly interested in canned vegetables

The demand for canned vegetables in the Arab world is constantly increasing, according to Mr. Hussein Nawara, Area Export Manager at Harvest Foods Egypt. The demand variation is up to 30-40% in 2022, says Mr Hussein.

However this demand is faced with unfavorable economic conditions, resulting in only a 10% increase in turnover, due to the unusual circumstances since the pandemic and global inflation, and the big increase in the production costs, he adds.

Mr. Hussein explains "unfortunately, the prices this season have risen sharply, but the markets are beginning to accept this increase since people can not do without food."

Harvest Foods exports tomato paste, canned vegetables, and beans. The most important markets for the company are Morocco, Libya, Palestine, the Arab Gulf countries, the USA, and Canada. Mr. Hussein added: "We are looking to open the markets of East and West Africa, which represent real opportunities for development."
