Large greenhouse producers have reduced the cultivation of cucumbers and increased the cultivation of tomatoes since it requires less energy. Maksym Myronenko, the owner of a 1-hectare cucumber greenhouse farm that grows Ilonara RZ F1 gherkins in the Dnipro region, spoke about this in the blog of the company Rijk Zwaan.
"There is a lot of uncertainty in business this year. We don't even know when to sow seeds since we cannot predict the situation in terms of lighting. Cucumber cultivation is 'quick money' because they are ready for their first harvest after 55-65 days, depending on weather conditions. With tomatoes, we could not achieve such deadlines," Maksym said.
